Mezzanines in ceiling-supported, beam-supported or column-supported designs expand usable space between floor and ceiling.
Mezzanines can be ceiling-supported (hung with steel cables/profiles), beam-supported (tied to wall beams on three sides) or column-supported (columns fixed to the floor below)—common in mosque designs as well.
They are built where floor-to-ceiling clearance is at least 5.50 m, with mezzanine height of at least 2.40 m, connected by stairs and covering at most half the floor area. Often designed as open space for bungalows, offices and workplaces serving groups of people.
